The MELA Project and Augmented Reality<\/strong><\/p>

The MELA Project \u2013 Musei Educativi Ludici e Accessibili (Educational, Playful and Accessible Museums) \u2013 was carried out in 2025 thanks to funding from the European Union, the Italian State, and the Lombardy Region (Innovacultura public funding call). A series of game-based activities (treasure hunts, city-escape experiences, memory games) were developed, with the support of students from the University of Insubria \u2013 Degree Course in Tourism Sciences and in Hospitality for Sustainable Tourism Development, to help visitors and tourists discover hidden details of the town and its widespread museum. These new itineraries for adults and children can be experienced through phygital works (that is, physical installations enhanced by digital tools and augmented reality), as well as through podcasts and emotional audio guides. The innovative approach of this project involved the participation of local residents and the collaboration of artists and experts.<\/p>

Memory bank: the roots of the Project<\/strong><\/p>

A living archive of voices, stories, and memories was collected through listening sessions with citizens at the library, at the museum, and at the Senior Center. Its purpose was to document the stories of the town and its inhabitants and to ensure that this heritage can be passed on to future generations. Thanks to the collaboration with Ears, the voices of local residents was transformed into audio guides that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the stories and sounds of the area.<\/p>

Citizens as storytellers of the territory<\/strong><\/p>

A distinctive feature of the project was the involvement of residents in the pre-design phase of the tourist itineraries. Some walks were organized in collaboration with Traccia Minima APS; citizens were invited to identify the most meaningful sites in order to share the community\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>

Kids on Air! Young voices tell the story of the town<\/strong><\/p>

The collection of voices and stories from the community also included the launch of the youngest radio station on Lake Maggiore in Angera. Children and teenagers aged 6 to 19, guided by journalists and multimedia communication experts of Laboradio S.r.l. (the publisher of Media Literacy Network\u2014Italy\u2019s largest national network), had the opportunity to become active members of a newsroom and experienced the creative and production process: from research to conducting interviews, recording, editing, and broadcasting.<\/p>

Artist-in-Residence Programs<\/strong><\/p>

Creative experts of different disciplines spent a week in Angera to produce works inspired by the local area. During their stay, the artists collaborated with local institutions, residents, and associations, taking part in meetings and exploratory walks to gather impressions and stories. With the collaboration of BePart, the participating artists created phygital masterpieces, enriching local cultural heritage.
